Appeal For Unity
1 Therefore, my beloved brethren whom I long to see, my joy and crown, in this way stand firm in the Lord, my beloved.
1 Therefore, my brethren dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved.
1 So then, in this way, my dearly loved brothers, my joy and crown, stand firm in the Lord, dear friends.
1 Therefore, my dear brothers whom I long for, my joy and my victor's crown, this is how you must stand firm in the Lord, dear friends.
1 Therefore, my brethren, whom I love and yearn to see, my delight and crown (wreath of victory), thus stand firm in the Lord, my beloved.
Exhortation, Encouragement, And Prayer
2 I urge Euodia and I urge Syntyche to live in harmony in the Lord.
2 I beseech Euodias, and beseech Syntyche, that they be of the same mind in the Lord.
2 I urge Euodia and I urge Syntyche to agree in the Lord.
2 I urge Euodia and Syntyche to have the same attitude in the Lord.
2 I entreat and advise Euodia and I entreat and advise Syntyche to agree and to work in harmony in the Lord.
3 Indeed, true companion, I ask you also to help these women who have shared my struggle in the cause of the gospel, together with Clement also and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the book of life.
3 And I intreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellowlabourers, whose names are in the book of life.
3 Yes, I also ask you, true partner, to help these women who have contended for the gospel at my side, along with Clement and the rest of my co-workers whose names are in the book of life.
3 Yes, I also ask you, my true partner, to help these women. They have worked hard with me to advance the gospel, along with Clement and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the Book of Life.
3 And I exhort you too, [my] genuine yokefellow, help these [two women to keep on cooperating], for they have toiled along with me in [the spreading of] the good news (the Gospel), as have Clement and the rest of my fellow workers whose names are in the Book of Life.
Be Anxious For Nothing
4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice!
4 Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.
4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!
4 Keep on rejoicing in the Lord at all times. I will say it again: Keep on rejoicing!
4 Rejoice in the Lord always [delight, gladden yourselves in Him]; again I say, Rejoice!
5 Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near.
5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.
5 Let your graciousness be known to everyone. The Lord is near.
5 Let your gracious attitude be known to all people. The Lord is near:
5 Let all men know and perceive and recognize your unselfishness (your considerateness, your forbearing spirit). The Lord is near [He is coming soon].
6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
6 Don't worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.
6 Never worry about anything. Instead, in every situation let your petitions be made known to God through prayers and requests, with thanksgiving.
6 Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition ( definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God.
7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
7 And the peace of God, which surpasses every thought, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
7 Then God's peace, which goes far beyond anything we can imagine, will guard your hearts and minds in union with the Messiah Jesus.
7 And God's peace [shall be yours, that tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and being content with its earthly lot of whatever sort that is, that peace] which transcends all understanding shall garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
8 Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.
8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
8 Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable-if there is any moral excellence and if there is any praise-dwell on these things.
8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is fair, whatever is pure, whatever is acceptable, whatever is commendable, if there is anything of excellence and if there is anything praiseworthy keep thinking about these things.
8 For the rest, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things [fix your minds on them].
9 The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.
9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
9 Do what you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you.
9 Likewise, keep practicing these things: what you have learned, received, heard, and seen in me. Then the God of peace will be with you.
9 Practice what you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and model your way of living on it, and the God of peace (of untroubled, undisturbed well-being) will be with you.
Support For Paul's Ministry
10 But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at last you have revived your concern for me; indeed, you were concerned before, but you lacked opportunity.
10 But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at the last your care of me hath flourished again; wherein ye were also careful, but ye lacked opportunity.
10 I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at last you have renewed your care for me. You were, in fact, concerned about me, but lacked the opportunity [to show it].
10 Now I rejoice in the Lord greatly, because once again you have shown your concern for me. Of course, you were concerned for me but you did not have an opportunity to show it.
10 I was made very happy in the Lord that now you have revived your interest in my welfare after so long a time; you were indeed thinking of me, but you had no opportunity to show it.
11 Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am.
11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.
11 I don't say this out of need, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am.
11 I am not saying this because I am in any need, for I have learned to be content in whatever situation I am in.
11 Not that I am implying that I was in any personal want, for I have learned how to be content (satisfied to the point where I am not disturbed or disquieted) in whatever state I am.
12 I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need.
12 I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.
12 I know both how to have a little, and I know how to have a lot. In any and all circumstances I have learned the secret [of being content]-whether well-fed or hungry, whether in abundance or in need.
12 I know how to be humble, and I know how to prosper. In each and every situation I have learned the secret of being full and of going hungry, of having too much and of having too little.
12 I know how to be abased and live humbly in straitened circumstances, and I know also how to enjoy plenty and live in abundance. I have learned in any and all circumstances the secret of facing every situation, whether well-fed or going hungry, having a sufficiency and enough to spare or going without and being in want.
13 I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.
13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
13 I am able to do all things through Him who strengthens me.
13 I can do all things through him who strengthens me.
13 I have strength for all things in Christ Who empowers me [I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him Who infuses inner strength into me; I am self-sufficient in Christ's sufficiency].
14 Nevertheless, you have done well to share with me in my affliction.
14 Notwithstanding ye have well done, that ye did communicate with my affliction.
14 Still, you did well by sharing with me in my hardship.
14 Nevertheless, it was kind of you to share my troubles.
14 But it was right and commendable and noble of you to contribute for my needs and to share my difficulties with me.
15 You yourselves also know, Philippians, that at the first preaching of the gospel, after I left Macedonia, no church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving but you alone;
15 Now ye Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only.
15 And you, Philippians, know that in the early days of the gospel, when I left Macedonia, no church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving except you alone.
15 You Philippians also know that in the early days of the gospel, when I left Macedonia, no church participated with me in the matter of giving and receiving except for you.
15 And you Philippians yourselves well know that in the early days of the Gospel ministry, when I left Macedonia, no church (assembly) entered into partnership with me and opened up [a debit and credit] account in giving and receiving except you only.
16 for even in Thessalonica you sent a gift more than once for my needs.
16 For even in Thessalonica ye sent once and again unto my necessity.
16 For even in Thessalonica you sent [gifts] for my need several times.
16 Even while I was in Thessalonica, you provided for my needs not once, but twice.
16 For even in Thessalonica you sent [me contributions] for my needs, not only once but a second time.
17 Not that I seek the gift itself, but I seek for the profit which increases to your account.
17 Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account.
17 Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that is increasing to your account.
17 It is not that I am looking for a gift. No, I want to see that you receive the fruit that increases to your benefit.
17 Not that I seek or am eager for [your] gift, but I do seek and am eager for the fruit which increases to your credit [the harvest of blessing that is accumulating to your account].
18 But I have received everything in full and have an abundance; I am amply supplied, having received from Epaphroditus what you have sent, a fragrant aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, well-pleasing to God.
18 But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God.
18 But I have received everything in full, and I have an abundance. I am fully supplied, having received from Epaphroditus what you provided-a fragrant offering, a welcome sacrifice, pleasing to God.
18 I have been paid in full and have more than enough. I am fully supplied, now that I have received from Epaphroditus what you sent a fragrant aroma, a sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to God.
18 But I have [your full payment] and more; I have everything I need and am amply supplied, now that I have received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent me. [They are the] fragrant odor of an offering and sacrifice which God welcomes and in which He delights.
19 And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
19 And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
19 And my God will fully supply your every need according to his glorious riches in the Messiah Jesus.
19 And my God will liberally supply ( fill to the full) your every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
20 Now to our God and Father be the glory forever and ever. Amen.
20 Now unto God and our Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
20 Now to our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen.
20 Glory belongs to our God and Father forever and ever! Amen.
20 To our God and Father be glory forever and ever (through the endless eternities of the eternities). Amen (so be it).
